Kota Kinabalu: Students and staff of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) are advised to take extra precautionary measures in their daily activities under the current unpredictable weather condition.

UMS Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor said all UMS students, whether staying inside the campus or outside, should stay vigilant and avoid risky activities during bad weather.

He said they must avoid potential landslide areas and flood-prone locations such as low-lying areas and riverbanks, adding they should also closely follow weather condition updates.

“Many UMS students and staff reside in various districts and commute or drive a car daily which warrants them to be extra careful to ensure safety,” he added.

Last Monday (Feb 13), several areas in Penampang, Inanam, Kiulu and others were submerged under water again following a heavy downpour which lasted several hours.

Kasim urged students and staff who need assistance to immediately notify/inform the university (heads of departments).

He assured that UMS will continue to extend help to its students and staff not only during an emergency/calamity but also to ensure no one drops out from taking exams.
