All nine tubewells constructed at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to supply water to the student residential colleges are now fully operational, said Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud.
Mustapha stated that these tubewells can provide up to 1 million litres of water per day to mitigate the impact of disruptions in the water supply from the Sabah State Water Department (JANS).
“The full operation of the tubewells does not mean that UMS no longer requires water supply from JANS.
“UMS still relies on the water supply from JANS for daily use because UMS's water requirement is very high, between 3 to 5 million litres per day, with the current population of UMS reaching 20,000, including 16,000 students,” he said during his visit to UMS, here, on Sunday.
