KOTA KINABALU: Water supply at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) was restored within 24 hours after a disruption sparked public concern over the weekend, said Deputy Chief Minister cum Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya.

The Sabah State Water Department (JANS) began restoring water pressure to the campus’ R13 Tank at 2am on Sunday, pumping in three million litres of water.

By the time UMS issued its statement later that day, the water supply had improved, with JANS responding swiftly after the issue was raised on social media.

A viral video showed UMS students walking to the Chancellor Hall with toiletries to bathe due to the campus-wide water shortage.

JANS clarified that UMS’s water supply is typically stable, but occasional disruptions occur due to rapid local development, particularly in higher areas, during the dry season.
