UMW Toyota recently gathered 120 secondary school students from all nook and cranny of the country to the Concorde Hotel in Shah Alam to brainstorm on how to save the environment. These gifted students were selected from a total of 800 students who submitted 120 proposal videos on a wide range of environmental issues plaguing their communities and how they intend to solve it. In the 3 day workshop, the students were enlightened to the Toyota 8 step Problem Solving Methodology (PSM) to arrest the environmental issues which comprised of Step 1: Identifying and Selecting Problem, Step 2: Understand Current Situation, Step 3: Target Setting, Step 4: Root Cause Analysis Step 5: Draft Countermeasure, Step 6: Implement Countermeasure, Step 7: Checking Results and Step 8: Standardising and Establishing Control.

These 8 PSM established by Toyota is expected to be a guiding factor for the selected students to embark on a 4-month journey to implement their selected projects. The students were led and guided by a team of experienced and lively facilitators in a very productive workshop that gave the eager participants a dearth of environmental knowledge.

At the end of the project, 2 site visits led by Toyota official will evaluate the student in September and a total 15 projects will advance to the grand finals and the best 3 projects will vie for the handsomely offered grand prize money valued at RM30 000, RM 20 000 and RM10 000 respectively. In addition to the grand prizes, additional subcategory prizes include best exhibition booth, best social media, best presenter and best accompanying teacher with each offering rm5000. The Toyota Eco Youth is a yearly CSR by UMW Toyota in educating and creating awareness amongst the young generation in the aim to keep our environment clean and healthy to live in since it's inception in 2001.
