A couple of days ago, Khairy Jamaluddin, one of the more popular UMNO (United Malays National Organisation) members was sacked. He was the UMNO Youth Chief from March 2009 to June 2018 and Member of Parliament (MP) of Rembau from March 2008 to November 2022. I cannot say that I was surprised by this news. There had been unrest amongst those in UMNO even before the 15th General Election, and things had become much more pronounced lately, especially when it was obvious that there were factions within the party.

KJ had been sacked along with Noh Omar, former Selangor UMNO Liaison Committee Chairman. Four other members of UMNO were suspended for six years, including Hishamuddin Hussein, Shahril Hamdan, Maulizan Bujang and Mohd Salim Shariff.

After KJ was sacked, he took to his Twitter a motto from a very famous book and TV series, Game of Thrones. In the book and the TV series, the motto “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken” was the motto of House Martell, the ruling house of the Kingdom of Dorne — one of the great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms. But, like many great Houses whether in reality or fiction, there came a time when they were destroyed. The House Martell’s legitimate heirs were murdered by those within the family, leaving the House extinct and throwing Dorne into political turmoil.

Was KJ’s use of the House Martell’s motto a mere coincidence or was it an indirect indication of political turmoil within the “great house” of UMNO? Will the party be destroyed from within by its own members?

KJ’s tweet was not lost when Mukhriz Mahathir, now the President of Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (PEJUANG) replied, “Welcome to the club”, reminding us of the time when Mukhriz was also sacked from UMNO back in June 2016 along with then Deputy Prime Minister, Muhyiddin Yassin. They were both sacked by then-former Prime Minister and UMNO President, Najib Razak. Is history repeating itself?

Although KJ had quickly updated his Twitter bio as “Presiden Persatuan Lumba Basikal Negeri Sembilan” and Tunku Ibrahim Sultan Ismail (TMJ) had also hinted at hiring KJ as CEO of JDT FC, would KJ ever throw his political career aside after many years rising and climbing to the top? Or would he, like some of his peers before him, decide to join another party — or maybe even start a brand new party of his own?

If you are KJ’s supporter, what would you suggest he do?
