In a recent disclosure of the theft of rare earth elements (REE) in Bukit Enggang, Sik, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail clarified that the intention behind revealing this issue was not to tarnish the image of caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor. Instead, it aimed to shed light on the issue of administrative malpractice.

Saifuddin Nasution emphasized that the revelation of the REE theft was just the beginning of a series of other disclosures pertaining to this matter. He clarified that there was no plot to damage Muhammad Sanusi's reputation, but rather, the focus was on exposing a more comprehensive picture, which involved the influx of foreign workers from China and various arrests and compounds that had been issued.

The investigation into the REE theft has been ongoing and has engaged multiple agencies. It all started with the first arrest made in January, leading to the opening of investigation papers by the Forestry Department and the Department of Mineral and Geoscience (JMG).

Addressing media reports quoting Muhammad Sanusi's claim of a plan to tarnish his image and link him to the irregularities in the REE mining issue, Saifuddin Nasution assured that the motive was purely rooted in uncovering the truth. He highlighted that his role as Kedah Development Action Council chairman was to ensure transparency and accountability in such matters.

During the Suka Menanti Madani Tour in Alor Setar, Saifuddin Nasution further revealed that the Kedah Menteri Besar Inc (MBI) had awareness of the REE theft issue in the Bukit Enggang area. This brought into focus the need for thorough scrutiny of administrative practices and the role of relevant authorities in overseeing such operations.

The theft of rare earth elements is a serious concern, considering their strategic importance in various industries and national security. The ongoing investigation aims to identify the culprits responsible for the theft, as well as any negligence or malpractice that might have facilitated such activities.

The case has implications beyond just the alleged involvement of foreign workers; it raises questions about regulatory oversight and adherence to mining laws in the region. Ensuring that natural resources are managed responsibly is vital for sustainable development and environmental protection.

As the investigation continues, it is imperative that transparency and cooperation between agencies remain at the forefront. Uncovering administrative malpractice and addressing issues promptly will not only serve justice but also reinforce public trust in the government's commitment to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding the nation's resources.
