The concerted efforts of law enforcement, as exemplified by operations Op Noda Khas and Op Hibur, have resulted in the apprehension of 184 individuals across the state. Conducted simultaneously from the stroke of midnight until the early hours of the morning, these operations involved the deployment of 23 senior officers and 114 personnel from various specialized units, including the Criminal Investigation Department and Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department.
The demographic breakdown of the apprehended individuals reveals a stark reality: 152 women and 32 men, spanning ages between 21 and 64, were caught in the dragnet. Among them, a significant majority—162 individuals—were identified as foreign nationals, while the remaining 22 were local residents, one of whom was already on the police's radar as a wanted individual.
The focus of these operations was to crack down on establishments suspected of engaging in illicit activities, including unlicensed entertainment, unauthorized foreign maid services, and drug-related offenses. During the raids, authorities seized a plethora of incriminating evidence, such as DVD players, amplifiers, laptops, speakers, microphones, and substantial amounts of cash suspected to be proceeds from illegal enterprises.
As the legal process unfolds, the fate of the detainees diverges based on their nationality. The 22 locals will be subject to custody under the provisions of Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code, while the 162 foreign nationals face remand proceedings under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Legal action against the perpetrators will be multifaceted, invoking various statutes and regulations to ensure justice is served. Charges are being pursued under a litany of sections, including but not limited to Section 6(2) and Section 11(2) of the Johor Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 1998, Section 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations, Section 6(1)(c), Section 15(1)(c), and Section 55B of the Immigration Act 1969/63, as well as Section 420 of the Penal Code.
The successful culmination of these operations underscores law enforcement's unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding public welfare.
