Police have apprehended a foreign national who is suspected of intentionally running towards and leaping onto several moving vehicles, which caused an accident in Bandar Sungai Long, Kajang, last Tuesday. The individual in question, an undocumented migrant, was arrested within the residential area at approximately 6 p.m.
Kajang District Police Chief, ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof, provided details of the arrest, stating that the action was taken after the authorities became aware of a viral 14-second video clip on Facebook. The video, shared on the popular page “DashCam Malaysia,” captured footage of the incident. Based on preliminary findings, the event is believed to have taken place on September 17 at around 11:53 a.m.
According to ACP Naazron, the suspect, a 32-year-old man who works as a cleaner, only sustained minor injuries during the incident. However, he managed to flee the scene before any identification or personal details could be obtained by witnesses or authorities. Two vehicles were reported to have been damaged due to the suspect's alleged actions, though the full motive behind the reckless behavior remains unclear. Investigations are ongoing to determine the reason behind the suspect’s actions, and no definitive conclusion has been reached at this stage.
The police chief also revealed that, as of now, the suspect’s mental state has yet to be fully assessed. However, a preliminary urine screening test was conducted, and the results came back negative for any drugs or intoxicants. The authorities are continuing their efforts to understand the suspect’s psychological condition to establish whether it played any role in his erratic behavior.
In line with the ongoing investigation, the suspect has been detained to assist in the inquiries, with legal proceedings being carried out under Section 336 of the Penal Code. This section pertains to actions that endanger the life or safety of others. If found guilty, the man could face up to three months in prison, a fine of RM500, or both. In addition to this, the suspect is also being investigated under Section 6(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as he was found to be without any form of identification or valid travel documents. Violating immigration laws in Malaysia can lead to further legal consequences, including potential deportation.
ACP Naazron urged members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or possess additional information to come forward. Anyone with relevant details is encouraged to contact the Investigating Officer, Inspector Mohamed Faeez Norzah, at 0132663407. Alternatively, they can visit the nearest police station to provide any evidence or insights that might aid the investigation.
The Kajang Police continue to work diligently on this case, seeking to uncover the full facts surrounding the suspect’s dangerous behavior and ensuring that justice is served in accordance with Malaysian law.
