PETALING JAYA: An unemployed man was fined RM3,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here today for using a screwdriver to scratch a Toyota Alphard belonging to another man last Saturday.

Magistrate Farah Azura Mohd Saad meted out the penalty on Liew Wil Sheng, 29, after he pleaded guilty to committing the mischievous act, which caused damage amounting to RM8,000.

He committed the offence at the car park of an apartment block in Kota Damansara here at 3.13 pm on Dec 23. The charge under Section 426 of the Penal Code provides for up to three months’ jail or a fine or both on conviction.

“Sometimes, we get so angry that we feel like scratching someone’s car out of frustration. But, no matter how angry we are, we shouldn’t act in that way because that’s not the solution,“ Farah Azura said, ordering Liew to be jailed for three months if he is unable to pay the fine.

To a question by Farah Azura, Liew’s lawyer Farith Emier Farhan said the incident was due to a misunderstanding related to business between his client and the victim. - Bernama
