AN unemployed man has been sentenced to five months in prison after failing to pay a RM2,800 fine imposed by the Magistrates’ Court in Johor for spying on a woman relieving herself in a public toilet earlier this month.
Muhammad Nazrullah Basir, 24, pleaded guilty to the offence and was initially fined after admitting the charge before Magistrate Fatin Dalilah Khalid.
According to the charge sheet, the unmarried man was accused of outraging the modesty of a 26-year-old woman by peering under the door of a public toilet at Tanjung Emas at approximately 9.30am on 14 April.
He was charged under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
According to case facts, the woman was using the women’s public restroom when she noticed someone spying on her from beneath the stall door. She immediately screamed for help, prompting the accused to flee the scene in a Perodua Kancil.
A male restroom attendant witnessed the accused escaping and alerted the police. Based on information received, officers from the Muar District Police Headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Division arrested Muhammad Nazrullah at noon on April 21 to assist with investigations.
Witness testimony and an identification parade confirmed the accused’s presence at the scene. He was also seen by one of the witnesses on the day of the incident.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Amieerah Alludin, while the accused was represented by Tee Xi Ran from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK). - April 25 2025
