Francis Yeoh, GXBank and Bursa Malaysia pay tribute to Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, remembering her kindness, service and lasting national legacy
KUALA LUMPUR: YTL Corp Group executive chairman Tan Sri Francis Yeoh said Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali would be remembered for being unfailingly gentle and kind.
“My family and I are profoundly saddened by the passing of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah. I know that countless Malaysians will share in this loss.
“She was unfailingly gentle and kind. She often asked after my beloved mother, and my family will always remember the sincerity of her care,” he said.
He also recalled her love of music, describing her as an accomplished musician.
“We treasured the evenings when she invited us to her home for dinner, followed by singing together,” he said.
Yeoh said one of his most cherished memories was singing “It’s a Sin to Tell a Lie” with Dr Siti Hasmah and Tun Dr Mahathir, whose favourite song it was.
Yeoh said her quiet strength and gracious presence would remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
“We will miss her dearly. May God comfort Tun Dr Mahathir and their entire family during this time of sorrow,” Yeoh said.
Meanwhile, GXBank said Dr Siti Hasmah is a true national treasure whose remarkable century of life touched millions across the nation.
The digital bank described her as a pioneer in every sense, adding that she stood as an enduring beacon of what grace and grit look like for all Malaysian women.
“Driven by a lifelong love for learning, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah broke ground as one of the country’s early Malay female doctors, laying vital foundations for public healthcare, maternal wellbeing, and rural medicine.
“Her presence brought comfort, dignity, and unity to everyday Malaysians across all walks of life, and her gentle strength and dedication to public service remain a guiding light for generations to come,” it said in a posting on LinkedIn.
Bursa Malaysia also conveyed its condolences to Dr Mahathir, describing Dr Siti Hasmah as a national icon who had touched many lives, and an inspiring figure for many generations.
“Her passing is a great loss to the country. May Allah have mercy on her soul and place her among the righteous,” it said in a post on X today.
Dr Siti Hasmah passed away at the National Heart Institute this morning at the age of 100.
She is survived by Dr Mahathir, 101, whom she married on Aug 5, 1956, and their seven children.
