In a sharp public rebuke of Municipal Corporation of Faridabad, Union Minister and BJP MP Krishan Pal Gurjar on Monday accused civic officials of turning the corporation into a “hub of corruption” and warned of strict action against engineers and officers allegedly involved in irregularities.
The strong remarks were made during a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in Faridabad, where Gurjar lashed out at MC officials over complaints related to poor-quality civic works, damaged roads, alleged collection of commissions, and obstruction of public movement.
According to officials present in the meeting, Gurjar directly confronted senior civic engineers, including the chief engineer, executive engineers (XENs), sub-divisional officers (SDOs), and junior engineers (JEs), alleging that public money was being siphoned off through contractors while civic infrastructure continued to deteriorate.
“Roads are breaking even before completing their lifespan. Inferior material is being used in interlocking tile work and sewer projects. The city has been turned into a centre of loot,” Gurjar reportedly said during the meeting.
The BJP MP also raised allegations regarding plantation drives, claiming that crores of rupees were being billed for planting trees, but no visible plantation existed on the ground. “Bills worth crores are being cleared in the name of trees, but there are no trees visible anywhere,” he said.
The meeting witnessed heated exchanges after the issue of a road closure near Mawai village was raised. Gurjar criticised Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department officials for allegedly shutting a road without consulting local authorities or public representatives. Calling the move “unacceptable”, he said the forcible blocking of public movement could not be justified under any circumstances.
Ballabhgarh MLA Mool Chand Sharma also joined the attack, accusing officials of unnecessarily digging up roads that were only a few years old. “This is not your father’s money,” Sharma told officials while questioning repeated reconstruction works despite roads being under warranty periods.
Badhkal MLA Dhanesh Adlakha alleged that certain officials were operating through middlemen and demanded accountability for repeated failures in civic projects. He claimed old roads built years ago were still intact, while newly constructed roads were collapsing within months.
Gurjar further warned officials against corruption, stating that public money belonged to taxpayers and those misusing it would eventually face consequences. He also directed authorities to identify officers responsible and initiate action against them.
The strong remarks come amid rising complaints over civic infrastructure quality, road cave-ins, and alleged corruption in municipal works across Faridabad.
