Several mass organisations, in meetings organised in Tarn Taran on Sunday, condemned the lathicharge on unemployed linemen in Patiala on Friday. The Pensioners’ and Senior Citizen Welfare Association, in a meeting held under the chairmanship of district president Ajit Singh Fatehchak, termed the incident the handiwork of the state government.
Other union leaders also addressed the gathering and urged employees and pensioners to remain prepared to face what they described as repressive tactics by the government aimed at suppressing the movements of employees and the unemployed.
The Pensioners’ Association of Powercom also organised a meeting under the leadership of Gurpreet Singh Mannan, where the lathicharge on peaceful employees was strongly condemned. He said the agitating employees were demanding jobs and had been subjected to undue force.
Trade union leaders Gurpreet Singh Gandiwind, Balkar Singh Valtoha, Daljit Singh Dialpura, Nachhatar Singh Pannu, Dr. Inderjit Singh Marhana and others also addressed their respective organisations, condemning the lathicharge on peaceful employees.
