Units to be set up at Sarawak’s major entry points to fight drug menace

THE Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) will be setting up units in major entry points in Sarawak, as part of the war against the drug menace which is on the rise in the state.

The key entry points being looked at are Kuching, Miri, Bintulu, Sibu and the Sarawak-Kalimantan main checkpoint of Tebedu in southern Sarawak which is about 100 kms inland from Kuching.

Department Deputy Director Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad said this during his visit to Kuching.

He said drug screening must be incorporated as part of entry procedures at airports, and land and sea entry points.

"Security screening must be tightened, with drug screenings included.

"This must be done with our narcotics units stationed at the entry points of Kuching, Miri, Bintulu and Sibu," he added. - October 9, 2024
