The Malaysian unity government is confident of sustaining its strong performance, citing political stability and economic growth as key factors limiting opposition challenges
BATU PAHAT: The Unity Government is confident it can maintain its strong performance momentum in governing the country. Cooperation among its component parties is seen as a key factor limiting challenges from the opposition.
Amanah vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said this confidence is based on the government’s achievements in political stability and economic growth. He is also the Health Minister.
He said cohesion within the government has boosted investor confidence and steady foreign direct investment inflows. This has also enabled better management of inflation.
“All of this shows that the Unity Government’s performance is on the right track ahead of facing external challenges such as conflicts in West Asia, which affect economic projections,” he told reporters after an Aidilfitri open house.
He added that the unity approach must continue to be strengthened to ensure sustained development and economic growth. This is vital for the well-being of the people.
“If we maintain cooperation and synergy within the framework and platform of the Unity Government, I am confident that no opposition party or opposition policy will be able to challenge us at the federal level, given our strong track record,” he said.
He stated that political stability and close cooperation give the government an advantage. It also enables the system of checks and balances to function more effectively.
Commenting on preparations for the Melaka and Johor state elections, Dzulkefly said discussions among Unity Government parties need to be expedited. This is to avoid clashes among themselves.
“Yes, discussions must be held promptly so that we are better prepared with greater clarity to face all electoral challenges,” he said.
He noted there have already been initial discussions earlier, as political parties are always engaged in negotiations. The final decision depends on the respective parties’ considerations, including partners in Barisan Nasional.
“Whatever form of cooperation or arrangement is decided, it must bring the best benefit to the states and the country,” he said.
