Kuala Lumpur: The majority of Malaysians, the Chinese community included, hoped to see the present ‘Unity Government’ serves its full five years term, without any hindrance, said President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) Tan Sri TC Goh.

Describing it as the ‘earnest wish’ of Malaysians, he said only then Malaysia would have a “stable political condition”, that is crucial for its economic growth and progress, for the next five years.

He said there should be no ‘honey moon’ period for the Unity Government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as there are many pressing matters which require its urgent and full attention.

“First and foremost, the present government must strive to ensure there is a lasting political stability for our country, as only then will the government be stable.

“Otherwise, we may again see political instability, which happened after the 14th general election held on May 5, 2018 repeating itself, with incessant political upheavals. If that is the case, how can the government govern and develop the nation effectively?” he said.

Goh who is also President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) said this in during an interview by The Malaysian Insight, recently, in which on behalf of Huazong and FCAS, he expressed full confidence and support for the ‘Unity Government’ led by Anwar.

He said the present Government must learn from the bad experiences in the past.

In regard to pressing matters which the Government should focus on, Goh who is also President of The Federation of Sabah and Labuan Hokkien Associations (FSLHA) said matters should be given top priority including expediting recovery of domestic economy post pandemic, by introducing various effective economic policies, to keep inflation under better control, to stabilise the Ringgit, and to effectively bring down the cost of living.

Goh added that the Government should also focus more on the future and wellbeing of Malaysian youths, especially to retain talents which is crucial for nation-building process so that they won’t end up as victims of job scams overseas.

He hoped the present Government could strive to ensure political stability in the country, and to forge greater unity among Malaysians of various races, in order to bring real progress and prosperity for the country.
