
KOTA KINABALU: The concept of universal values that transcend religious and racial boundaries should form the foundation for building a harmonious society and a prosperous nation, said the Yang Dipertua of Sabah, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.
He said adopting these principles could reduce conflicts in a multicultural society while fostering unity and excellence.
“We must live in peace as a united people, fully committed to our national identity rooted in the Federal Constitution and the Rukun Negara.
“Unity has always been the solid foundation for achieving greatness. For the sake of Malaysia, we must prioritise national interests over individual or ethnic concerns.

A total of 4,493 graduates received their diplomas, bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and doctorates during the convocation, which runs over four days starting today.
As UMS Chancellor, Juhar encouraged graduates to embrace lifelong learning, reminding them that education does not end at university. He also urged them to refine their communication skills to articulate ideas effectively, confidently, and with impact.
“Don’t fear trying something new, even if there’s a risk of failure. Every challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow,” he said, encouraging graduates to persevere and continually seek self-improvement.
He also stressed the importance of maintaining a balance between career aspirations and mental and physical well-being.
Juhar also called on UMS graduates to contribute to the university and society by sharing their knowledge, time, or resources to support those in need.
