Universiti Keusahawanan Koperasi Malaysia expected to begin operations in September

KUALA LUMPUR – Universiti Keusahawanan Koperasi Malaysia (UKKM), under the auspices of the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry, is expected to begin operations in September with a first intake of 500 students.

Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar said for the time being, 15 programmes from diploma to doctorate levels to be offered by the university are awaiting accreditation by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

“The objective of the university’s establishment is to produce a skilled workforce in the field of business management and cooperative entrepreneurship by optimising resources through the joint use of expertise between agencies under the ministry,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after attending the Jalinan Mesra Bersama 100 Koperasi Terbaik programme here last night.

Noh said he is confident that the combined expertise would be able to set the standard for the cooperative entrepreneurship education in Malaysia.

“In order to realise it, cooperatives need to support the establishment of the university by forging strategic cooperation and providing education funding as well as sharing of expertise with UKKM,” he said.

Noh also called on cooperatives to open up opportunities for UKKM students to undergo industrial training at their institutions, in addition to offering jobs to those who graduated from the university.

“This can indirectly produce cooperative leaders that are competent, professional and credible,” he said.

At the event, Noh also presented Lestari Modal Insan Koperasi 2022 awards to cooperatives from micro, small, medium and large clusters in recognition of their active involvement in human capital development. – Bernama, August 16, 2022
