In a statement, UM announced that the decision was made to address doubts about the halal labelling of a product marketed as a "ham and cheese sandwich." The university emphasized that the closures are necessary to allow a thorough investigation to proceed without interference.

"It was found that the sandwich product packs labelled 'ham and cheese sandwich' and the usage of the halal logo on the product in the stores were doubtful," UM stated.
