In a statement issued today, the university emphasised that the inquiry aims to establish the full facts and will be conducted “fairly, transparently, and in line with the law and university regulations.”
The statement further urged the public to provide the university with the necessary space to carry out the investigation without interference.
“The public is also urged to refrain from speculation or the dissemination of unverified information to safeguard the integrity of the investigation and the privacy of all parties involved,” it read.
Universiti Malaya reaffirmed its commitment to handling all issues “professionally, ethically, and responsibly,” highlighting the institution’s adherence to principles of good governance and accountability.
The announcement comes amid growing social media scrutiny, reflecting the increasing impact of online platforms on public perception of academic and institutional integrity.
UM’s response signals a determination to balance transparency with due process while protecting individual privacy.
