Kota Kinabalu: Some 150,000 earthquakes occur all over the world annually, and strong earthquakes that Sabah has experienced comprise only a small percentage of the global occurrences.
Four earthquakes with magnitudes of greater than 6.0 occurred in Sabah – in Kudat in 1951, Lahad Datu in 1923 and 1976, and Ranau in 2015.
This was revealed by Prof Dr Felix Tongkul of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) in an online lecture.
