Kota Kinabalu: The Science Technology and Innovation Centre at University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) has opened its doors to its students and secondary school students starting August 2024.
The opening of this centre stems from a study conducted by UCSF’s Centre for Development Studies (CDS), which found that students’ interest in education related to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) has somewhat decreased.
Among the interesting contents of the science centre are Robotics, Coding, 3D Printing, Virtual Reality, and STEM.
Two officers entrusted with overseeing the centre, Elly Mazlin and Aisyah, said that the response from UCSF students had been quite encouraging.

UCSF Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Rafiq Idris, said the centre’s role is to provide education, awareness, and serve as an effort to attract students’ interest in STEM subjects.
He said this centre is not only open for the benefit of UCSF students but also for school students in Sabah.
He said STEM subjects are important for the needs and development of the country and Sabah.
“I hope it will be beneficial and become a catalyst for various forms of strategic cooperation between UCSF and various stakeholders. Additionally, it is hoped that the activities carried out by this centre will be able to support and nurture research activities that drive innovation,” he said.
