- The University of Reading has created the Reading 100 Chocolate Bar, made entirely from British ingredients including cocoa grown in Berkshire.
- Produced to mark the university's centenary, it is the first UK-grown chocolate bar made since Rowntrees gifted one to the then-Princess Elizabeth in 1932.
- That was the only other bar of UK-grown chocolate ever made, making the late Queen the only person in history ever to eat one.
- Food security master's student Maha Khan crafted the chocolate using cocoa harvested from the university's International Cocoa Quarantine Centre.
- The Reading-based centre houses over 300 cocoa varieties and manages 97 per cent of global cocoa plant movements to prevent disease spread.
