A tragic incident occurred this morning at the Agrofarm Aminah Rahmat Campsite, where a university student was found drowned in a fish pond. The incident took place in the Segamat district.
According to Segamat district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Zamry Marinsah, the police were alerted to the situation at approximately 11:12 AM. The victim, a 23-year-old student, had visited the campsite with 16 friends to work on a Digital Marketing assignment focused on the recreational site.
The group arrived at the campsite at 6 PM the previous evening. The victim had planned to leave the site by 9 AM the following day but decided to swim in the campsite owner’s fish pond at around 10:30 AM with four other friends. At around 11 AM, the victim’s friends noticed his absence and began searching for him. They found him 15 minutes later and attempted to resuscitate him by administering breathing aid. Unfortunately, he was declared dead by an assistant medical officer at the scene.
Superintendent Ahmad Zamry stated that the victim's body was transported to the forensics unit at Segamat Hospital for an autopsy. He added that the police would continue their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
In light of this incident, Superintendent Ahmad Zamry urged the public to exercise caution in unfamiliar environments and to minimize water-related activities in such areas to prevent similar tragedies.
This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with water activities, particularly in locations that are not well-known to the individuals involved. Safety precautions and awareness of one's surroundings are crucial when engaging in recreational activities, especially those involving water.
The community is reminded to prioritize safety and heed warnings and advice from authorities. The tragic loss of a young life underscores the importance of vigilance and care to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. The authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the drowning, and further details will be released as they become available.
