A WOMAN in her late sixties has died after her car was struck by a worker transport bus at a signalised intersection near Dataran Segar early Saturday morning. The bus driver was later found to be unlicensed.
The fatal crash occurred around 5.30am. According to Port Dickson District Police Chief, Superintendent Maslan Udin, initial findings suggest the collision was likely caused by negligence, with wet road conditions due to early rainfall being a contributing factor.
“The accident is believed to have been caused by negligence, with road conditions wet due to rain,” he said in an official statement.
The victim, a 69-year-old local woman, suffered critical head injuries and died while undergoing emergency treatment at Port Dickson Hospital. Her body was later transferred to the hospital’s forensic unit for post-mortem.
The 41-year-old man driving the bus was unharmed. However, police checks revealed that he was operating the vehicle without a valid driving licence.
“Urine screening on the driver returned negative for drugs,” Maslan confirmed.
Both the bus and the car involved in the incident have been seized and are being held at the Port Dickson District Police Headquarters for inspection by the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (PUSPAKOM).
CCTV footage from the intersection is being reviewed to establish which party may have run the red light, as part of the ongoing investigation.
“The bus driver has been detained to assist with investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” said Maslan.
He further urged road users to comply strictly with all traffic rules, especially at signal junctions, and called on employers to ensure that only licensed drivers are entrusted with vehicle operation.
“Safety on the road is a collective responsibility. Driving without a licence is a serious offence that endangers lives,” he added. - Sept 6, 2025
