KOTA KINABALU: The Likas pedestrian overhead bridge near SM All Saints will soon be demolished after being deemed structurally unsafe due to ageing and loose concrete that poses a safety hazard to the public.

Sabah DAP chairperson Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe said the bridge’s deteriorating condition had raised concern, especially among students and motorists using Jalan Tuaran Likas daily.

Phoong visited the site on Monday with City Hall, Public Works Department, and LikasVue project representatives to discuss safety measures and redevelopment plans in the area.

City Hall Director-General Datuk Lifred Wong informed that the developer will widen the road, demolish the bridge, and install a traffic light junction to ensure safer pedestrian crossings.

Phoong said the unsafe structure is expected to be removed by the coming Chinese New Year and assured that he will continue monitoring the project to ensure all improvements are completed properly.
