Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Army’s 5th Division hosted a Pistol Shooting Programme in conjunction with the Public and Media Agencies Day 2025 at the Lok Kawi Camp Firing Range, Tuesday.

The event was led by Panglima 5 Divisyen, Major General Datuk Noorrul Azril Ariffin, who emphasised the importance of Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) as outlined in the Ministry of Defence’s Strategic Plan 2021-2025.

He said the programme not only aimed to strengthen collaboration with civil agencies and the media, but also to foster closer ties under the Whole of Government and Whole of Society (Wogos) approach, in line with Malaysia’s concept of comprehensive defence.

“This is an annual programme designed as a platform for us to build closer relationships with all agencies in Sabah.

“It is also our way of showing appreciation to the government, private agencies, and media partners who have continuously supported us in carrying out our duties in Sabah,” he said during a press conference.

According to Noorrul, more than 35 agencies were invited, with nearly all sending representatives.

“From what I observed today, everyone was punctual, engaged and fully participated. Judging by the smiles and feedback, I believe we have achieved the objectives we set for this programme,” he said.

When asked whether such programmes would involve army veterans in the future, he said it was possible.

“For now, we focus on strategic partners and the media. But we have no issue considering veterans in the future, as they are very much part of us.”Among those present were Kota Kinabalu Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah, Sabah State Development Director Samsul Dollah, Sabah Security Director Datuk Yahya Sulaiman and Sabah Immigration Director Datuk Sharifah Sitti Saleha Habib Yussof.

The programme also drew strong media participation, including representatives from Daily Express, Borneo Post, Utusan Borneo, NSTP, Bernama, RTM, Berita Harian, Sabah Media Sabah News, The Malaysia Press, Sin Chew Daily and Jabatan Penerangan.
