MANILA, Philippines — Students and faculty at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman in Quezon City were evacuated Thursday afternoon after an alleged online threat targeting the Palma and Malcolm Hall areas circulated online.
According to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), someone received a message at 1:54 p.m. from an Instagram account purportedly belonging to a UP Diliman student.
The message read in Filipino: "I will sow chaos throughout Palma and Malcolm. All of you, be warned."
However, no suspicious or hazardous items were found by the QCPD's Explosive Ordnance Disposal team that responded and inspected the area. The city’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office declared the incident a false alarm past 3 p.m and the students were advised to return to their classrooms and resume classes.
