[ UPDATE 25/10/2022 16:50 ] WhatsApp appears to be restored for most users after it was down for at least 90 minutes. Do restart your app if you still can’t send or receive messages.

It’s not just you or your telco. WhatsApp is facing a global outage at approximately 3:25pm Malaysian time. Users are unable to send or receive messages at the moment and the app is just showing the “Connecting…” status.

According to DownDetector, there’s a spike in WhatsApp outages reported in the last few minutes. Users from across the globe including Malaysia, Indonesia, Germany, Japan, Brunei, UAE, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Nigeria have also reported issues with the popular instant messaging app.

The last major outage which brought down WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram was in October 2021. At the time of writing, WhatsApp and Meta have yet to acknowledge the issue on their official Twitter channel. For now, you can use other instant messaging platforms or SMS for text-based communications
