VOLVO CAR MALAYSIA has launched the updated 2026 Volvo EX90, bringing a more powerful dual-motor powertrain, 800V electrical architecture and upgraded computing hardware. It is also now locally assembled (CKD) in Shah Alam.
Priced at RM 428,888 on-the-road without insurance in Peninsular Malaysia, the updated EX90 is RM14,000 cheaper than the previous completely built-up (CBU) model, which was priced at RM442,888.
For the first 100 units booked, Volvo Car Malaysia is offering an RM 25,000 cash rebate together with a complimentary Volvo Wallbox worth RM3,990.
One of the biggest changes is the move from a 400V to 800V electrical architecture. Maximum DC charging increases from 250kW to 350kW, cutting the 10-80% charging time from around 30 minutes previously to 22 minutes. AC charging remains at up to 11kW.
The battery has also changed slightly, with the updated EX90 using a 106kWh NCM pack with 103kWh usable capacity, compared with 111kWh gross and 107kWh usable previously. WLTP range now stands at up to 617km, slightly down from 623km before.
Malaysia continues to receive the Twin Motor all-wheel-drive version, but output rises substantially to 500kW, equivalent to 680PS, and 870Nm. The previous model produced 517PS and 910Nm.
As a result, the seven-seat SUV now accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, down from 4.9 seconds previously, while top speed remains limited to 180 km/h.
The other major upgrade is its core computer, which is now based on Nvidia Drive AGX Orin hardware.
Volvo says the system manages functions including active safety, vehicle sensors and battery management, while its Superset software stack allows additional features and improvements to be delivered through over-the-air updates.
Visually, the updated EX90 remains largely unchanged, although the most obvious difference is the removal of the roof-mounted LiDAR sensor found on the previous model.
Otherwise, it retains the same overall exterior design, seven-seat layout, 21-inch wheels and electrochromic panoramic roof.
Standard equipment includes ventilated and powered front seats with massage, four-zone climate control with third-row air-conditioning, a head-up display and a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system.
The infotainment system continues to feature Google built-in services, while wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now listed as standard.
Safety equipment includes Pilot Assist, Lane Keeping Aid, Blind Spot Information System with steering assistance, Collision Avoidance and Mitigation, Intersection Auto Brake, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Emergency Stop Assist.
It also gets Volvo’s Driver Understanding and Occupant Sensing systems, along with Park Pilot Assist and a 360-degree camera with 3D view.
