KUALA LUMPUR – Three individuals sustained minor injuries following the collapse of the car porch ceiling at the entrance of Megah Rise Mall in Petaling Jaya this afternoon.
According to the mall's management, the incident occurred at around 3pm today and it attributed the ceiling collapse to strong winds and heavy rainfall.
"We are currently investigating the cause of the incident and are taking immediate action to manage and address the situation," it said on Facebook.
Dramatic footage of the incident has been circulating on social media.
One particularly gripping video, shared by Facebook user Fiona Ng, captured the moment the roofing collapsed, with visitors and security personnel swiftly entering the building as the incident unfolded.
However, the identities of the injured individuals have not been disclosed, and it remains unclear whether they have been transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
Concerned netizens commented under Megah Rise Mall’s Facebook announcement, seeking updates on the disaster.
“Our mall is still operating. We have cordoned off the affected area,” the mall’s management said in reply to Facebook user Roselina Chan, who asked if the mall was taking immediate safety measures and if all other shops were still operating normally.
It also updated commenters that the entire mall entrance is inaccessible, but the car park and lift from the car park basement to the first floor is available for customers, including pet owners, who still wish to visit. – October 28, 2023
