KUALA LUMPUR – MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong has denied meeting Pakatan Harapan (PH) representatives at Seri Pacific Hotel this morning, and affirmed that Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs were there to meet its chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“I was shocked to find upon my arrival that PH leaders were also there. I do not know if this was pre-arranged or a coincidence.
“After the meeting (with fellow BN MPs), I was not involved in any discussions or meeting, coincidence or otherwise, with PH leaders,” he said in a statement today.
He reiterated that BN’s decision will need the mandate from its supreme council.
Wee added that he received a WhatsApp message at 11.23pm last night from the BN secretary informing him of the meeting. It only involved BN MPs.
“A press conference was held after the meeting only involving BN MPs and dozens of journalists.”
During the press conference chaired by Zahid, he said any decision by BN will be made via the coalition’s highest governing body, of which he is the chair.
He also said there have yet to be any “official negotiations” with either PH or Perikatan Nasional.
“All decisions to support any coalition will be made by the BN Supreme Council.
“Any statements issued by any BN lawmakers supporting any coalition, especially Perikatan Nasional, are not valid and those doing so will be in breach of the party’s directive.”
Zahid was speaking to the press following a meeting between BN and PH leadership at the Seri Pacific Hotel here today. Along with Zahid, 25 other BN lawmakers were present.
Kuala Pilah MP Datuk Adnan Abu Hassan and Jelebu MP Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias were not present as they were unwell.
Sembrong MP Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has publicly reiterated his stance against working with PH. He was also not present at the hotel.
Similarly, Simpang Renggam MP Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad was not at the hotel. – The Vibes, November 21, 2022
