KUALA LUMPUR – A mother and son, both foreign nationals, were injured in a bizarre motorcycle crash at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre parking lot tunnel earlier today.
The incident saw the woman being flung off the vehicle they were riding on and getting wedged in a gap behind a large pipe that runs along the tunnel’s wall.
The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department’s operations centre received a distress call on the incident through the Malaysian Emergency Response Services’ 999 line at 9.53am.
It had then sent eight firemen from the Jalan Tun Razak Fire and Rescue Station to the scene of the incident.
It was then discovered that the crash involved two foreigners, with the 60-year-old female victim found stuck between roadside dividers before firemen safely extracted her using special equipment.
The male victim, aged 22, suffered injuries to his right hand and was handed over to Health Ministry authorities for further treatment.
“The operation was fully completed at 10.41am,” the statement said.
It is believed that both victims are undergoing treatment at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
Two die in blaze at bungalow in Taman Gembira
Meanwhile, also in Kuala Lumpur, two people died due to a raging fire at a bungalow in Taman Gembira early this morning.
In a separate statement, the KL Fire and Rescue Department said that 35 officers from the Hang Tuah, Sri Petaling and Pantai fire stations were deployed after receiving reports on the incident.
Upon arriving at the scene, they found that the fire had engulfed a four-storey bungalow measuring 80 by 70 square feet at the base.
“It is estimated that the fire had damaged 100% of the first floor and 50% of the second floor,” it said, adding that there were four people identified as victims.
Of the four, a man and a woman lost their lives while the other two, both males, suffered injuries and have been sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.
The statement said that “offensive firefighting” methods had to be used to prevent the flames from spreading to adjoining houses, leading to the blaze being successfully extinguished at 7.12am.
