Kuala Lumpur: The Federal Government needs to upgrade and declare Sapangar Bay Container Port as the second National Load Centre after Port Klang, said Senator Datuk Bobbey Suan.
He said the upgrade and declaration would facilitate the process of mobilising the export industry for Sabah’s main commodity, which involves prime sectors such as agriculture and manufacturing, as well as activating domestic and international shipping activities.
According to him, the proposal will also empower and stimulate trade and economic activities across the region, create job opportunities, generate regional income through eco-tourism activities, encourage foreign direct investment and indirectly overcome and compensate for the large difference in the price of raw materials and the price of essential goods between Sabah and Sarawak and the peninsula.
