TAWAU: Netizens, particularly in Sabah, have been urged to uphold the Rukun Negara and refrain from insulting or belittling the Head of State (TYT) institution on social media.
Social activist and Sabah Drug Prevention and Crime Organisation (PPDJS) adviser Mohd Zaki Harry Susanto (pic) said freedom of expression must be exercised responsibly and with respect for the country’s institutions.
“The Second Principle, Loyalty to the King and Country, must be genuinely embraced, especially in the age of social media where everyone can shape public perception,” he said, commenting on recent criticism of the Sabah TYT institution online.
Zaki said criticism should be factual, rational and respectful, and must not descend into slander, incitement or insults that could undermine social harmony.
“Netizens need to distinguish between individuals, policies, current issues and institutions — if there are disagreements, use facts, not slander, and arguments, not insults,” he said.
