Upko applies to join GRS as component party

Kota Kinabalu: Upko on Friday submitted an application to become a component party of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

Upko president Datuk Ewon Benedick led a party delegation in a meeting with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is also GRS chairman, to formally present the application.

Ewon said Upko seeks to contribute towards greater unity and cooperation among Sabah-based parties in efforts to strengthen the State’s future development agenda and advance rights enshrined under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and the Federal Constitution.

He said Upko’s Sabah First vision is aligned with GRS’s Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0 roadmap and should be strengthened through closer cooperation and the consolidation of local Sabah parties.

Ewon said the Upko Supreme Council had unanimously agreed at its meeting on May 25 to apply to become a GRS component party.
