Upko says GRS entry aimed at strengthening Sabah’s voice

PUTATAN: Upko’s decision to join Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) was made collectively by the party’s leadership and is aimed at strengthening Sabah’s political voice, said Deputy President Datuk Donald P Mojuntin.

Speaking at the Putatan Upko Triennial General Meeting on Sunday, Donald said the move was unanimously endorsed by the party’s Supreme Council after considering current political realities and grassroots aspirations.

The Moyog assemblyman said Upko’s participation in GRS reflects efforts to strengthen cooperation among Sabah-based parties and enhance the state’s position on issues including the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), development funding, education, healthcare and the 40 per cent revenue entitlement claim.

He said Upko would continue to uphold its principles and “Sabah First” agenda, while urging members to remain focused on grassroots work despite criticism over the party’s new political alignment.

Donald also called for stronger grassroots mobilisation ahead of future elections and expressed confidence in Upko’s prospects in Putatan, while former Putatan division chief Datuk Marcus M. Mojigoh urged unity among members and said the division would continue supporting coalition decisions, including seat allocations under GRS.
