TAWAU, July 15 — The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) will help political parties in the unity government that are involved in next month’s state elections, said its president, Datuk Ewon Benedick.

He said this is to show its support and commitment to the leadership of the Unity Government, which cares about the welfare of all.

“We can see there is leadership in the unity government today. Sabah, and I believe Sarawak too, supports this leadership... we can see the seriousness and focus in the unity government, which Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim leads,” he told reporters after launching the Tawau Cooperative Institute of Malaysia (IKMa) here today.

Selangor, Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu and Negeri Sembilan will go to the polls on August 12, with nominations set for July 29 and early voting on August 8.

Meanwhile, Ewon, who is also the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister, said the ministry was striving to promote the concept of social change to entrepreneurs and cooperatives as the sector can improve the people’s socio-economic growth and the well-being of the environment.

“Entrepreneurs and cooperatives not only run businesses for profits but also provide aid to the less fortunate and help preserve the environment. — Bernama
