Upko to submit Sabah redelineation proposals to CM

TAMPARULI: Upko will submit its proposals on the review of Sabah's parliamentary and State Legislative Assembly (Dun) electoral boundaries to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Its president, Datuk Ewon Benedick (pic), said the party had received proposals for a review involving Kota Belud, Penampang and Sepanggar, including a resolution to split the Kota Belud parliamentary constituency into two as it currently comprises four state constituencies.

He said Upko also proposed reviewing the Penampang parliamentary constituency to create an additional parliamentary seat and two new state seats, while leaving it to the Tuaran division to decide whether to retain the existing boundaries or review them.

Ewon, who is also Deputy Chief Minister and Sabah Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport, said the State Cabinet had discussed the need to review parliamentary and state electoral boundaries and had asked all parties to submit their proposals to the Chief Minister.

He said the matter had also been discussed previously, including at the Special Council on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Implementation, adding that Sabah's parliamentary representation was last increased under the 2002–2003 redelineation exercise, which took effect for the 2004 General Election.
