The police have registered an FIR against a fertiliser retailer in Yamunanagar district after nearly 8,000 bags of subsidised agriculture-grade urea were found missing during an inspection by the Agriculture Department.
The case was registered at the Sadar police station on May 8 against Sahil Khan, proprietor of M/s Kisan Sewa Kendra in Karera Khurd village, on the complaint of Bal Mukund Sharma, Quality Control Inspector (QCI) with the Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department.
According to officials, a surprise inspection was conducted at the fertiliser outlet in January this year. During verification of the Point of Sale (PoS) machine records, 7,993 bags (359.688 metric tonnes) of subsidised urea were shown in stock, but the consignment was not found physically present in the prescribed godown.
Following the inspection, the department issued show-cause notices to the retailer and provided multiple opportunities for a hearing.
Officials also sought details of farmers to whom the fertiliser had allegedly been sold, but the retailer failed to furnish any supporting records or documents regarding the sale of the urea stock.
