US attacks on Iran escalate as tower is destroyed in key port

  • US airstrikes have reportedly caused the collapse of a tower at Iran's Chabahar port on the Gulf of Oman, a crucial trade route for Afghanistan, according to images shared by defense secretary Pete Hegseth.
  • The surveillance tower's collapse was depicted in images circulated on social media by activists before being shared by Hegseth, with Iranian state media acknowledging a third round of strikes on the facility.
  • While Iran stated the tower oversaw commercial traffic, its paramilitary Revolutionary Guard also maintains operations at ports across the country.
  • Separately, a chemical tanker named Asana was seized by armed assailants off the southern coast of Yemen in the Gulf of Aden on Friday, with maritime security sources confirming the vessel was boarded en route to the Somali port of Bosaso.
  • US forces also conducted further airstrikes in Iran on Friday, hitting a bridge and a train station, marking the sixth consecutive night of such operations.
