US attacks on Iran were ‘absolutely necessary’, says Nato chief

  • Nato secretary general Mark Rutte stated that renewed US strikes on Iran were "absolutely necessary" following Iran's violation of a fragile ceasefire agreement.
  • The US military conducted a new wave of strikes against Iran on Tuesday and revoked a licence permitting Tehran to sell oil, after three tankers were reportedly hit by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz.
  • Qatar accused Iran of attacking its LNG tanker, the Al Rekayyat, in the Strait of Hormuz, which sustained a fire in its engine room, while Iran denied responsibility for the vessel strikes.
  • In retaliation for the US strikes, Iran launched attacks on key US bases in Bahrain and Kuwait, with the IRGC claiming to have targeted 85 facilities and a reaper drone.
