US hails longstanding Malaysia ties in National Day message

THE United States has reaffirmed its commitment to a strong and enduring partnership with Malaysia, anchored in shared values of peace, security and prosperity.

In a message commemorating Malaysia’s 68th National Day, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio conveyed his “warmest congratulations” to the Malaysian people, expressing confidence in the continued growth of bilateral ties.

“On behalf of the United States, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the people of Malaysia on the 68th anniversary of your independence on 31 August,” said Rubio in a statement published on the official Facebook page of the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

He noted that the relationship between the two countries has spanned decades, built on mutual interests and cooperation.

“The United States and Malaysia have enjoyed close and enduring cooperation over several decades, founded on a shared vision for peace, security and prosperity — as demonstrated by our recent collaboration in securing a lasting ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia,” he said.

Rubio added that Washington looked forward to deepening its bilateral ties with Malaysia as both nations work towards a more promising future.

“As you celebrate this milestone, the United States sends its best wishes and hopes that the year ahead brings prosperity to all Malaysians,” he added. - Sept 1, 2025
