The US military bombed radar and drone control centres in Iran over the weekend after Tehran had previously shot down a US drone, the US regional command CENTCOM said on Monday.

CENTCOM described the action as "self-defence strikes" in a post on X and accused Tehran of "aggressive Iranian actions," which included the shooting down of a MQ-1 drone over international waters.

The US said it hit Iranian drone command and control sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island.

US forces "swiftly responded by eliminating Iranian air defenses, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones that posed clear threats to ships transiting regional waters," it said.

No US soldiers were harmed in the operations.
