The US military denied Iran's announcement that it had fully closed the Strait of Hormuz to shipping, saying commercial vessels were still entering and leaving the waterway.

"Commercial ships are continuing to transit in and out of the Strait of Hormuz tonight," US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on X.

The statement came shortly after Iran's military said it had completely shut the strategic waterway in response to recent US attacks on targets in southern Iran and warned that any ship attempting to pass through would be targeted, according to a statement carried by state media.

State media later reported that two ships had come under fire.

The US military said earlier it had launched new strikes on Iranian targets on the orders of President Donald Trump. Iranian state media reported explosions in several southern port cities.
