The US military on Friday struck a suspected drug-smuggling boat in the eastern Pacific Ocean, killing two men, the regional command said.
"Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations," the US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) said on social media platform X.
The information provided by the US military could not initially be independently verified.
The command said that two men were killed in the attack and a third survived the strike. The US Coast Guard was called to rescue the survivor, SOUTHCOM said.
There was initially no information on whether the person had been rescued.
The administration of US President Donald Trump has been targeting boats in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific since September, saying the operations are aimed at curbing international drug trafficking.
Critics question whether the deadly attacks in international waters are permissible under international law.
