The US military said on Tuesday it had attacked a boat allegedly engaged in narco-trafficking operations in the eastern Pacific Ocean, killing one person.
"One male narco-terrorist was killed during this action, and there were two survivors," US Southern Command wrote on X.
The US Coast Guard was called in to assist with rescue efforts. It was not immediately clear whether the survivors had been recovered.
According to intelligence, the boat was travelling along a known drug smuggling route in the Pacific, the US military stated. This information could not be independently verified.
US President Donald Trump's administration has targeted boats in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific since September, saying the operations are aimed at curbing international drug trafficking.
Critics question whether the deadly attacks in international waters are permissible under international law.
According to official figures, more than 100 people have been killed in such operations so far.
