The US military said on Wednesday it struck a vessel in the eastern Pacific Ocean that it alleged was involved in drug trafficking, killing two men.
"Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations," US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) said in a statement on X. The information could not be independently verified.
The administration of US President Donald Trump has been targeting boats in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific since September, saying the operations are aimed at curbing international drug trafficking.
Critics have questioned whether the deadly attacks in international waters are permissible under international law.
According to official figures, more than 100 people have been killed in such operations so far.
