US Park Police release video of woman wanted in Reflecting Pool ‘destruction’ probe

  • U.S. Park Police have released footage of a woman wanted in connection with alleged damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool following an incident on June 19 where she was seen dipping her hand into the water.
  • The Washington D.C. landmark has recently faced renewed scrutiny due to issues like algae blooms, peeling paint, and even dead birds after an estimated $16 million refurbishment.
  • White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated there had been six arrests of individuals allegedly vandalizing the pool while President Donald Trump claimed a "300 foot long gash" and "illegally placed chemicals" in the water.
  • An effort to drain and resurface the pool, announced in April for an estimated $2 million, resulted in an algae bloom and floating chunks of the pool's blue surface after it was refilled earlier this month.
  • National Park Service workers found two cuts in foam sections, along with holes, cracks, and peeling caulking, shortly after the pool was drained, resealed, and refilled by June 5, though the Interior Department now states the pool is "clear" and "reflecting beautifully."
