The US Republican Party plans to hold a convention in the state of Texas in September ahead of the crucial November midterm elections, President Donald Trump said on Tuesday.
The event will take place in Dallas on September 9-10, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, adding that it would combine political programming with entertainment, without providing further details.
"It will be a RALLY like none other!" Trump wrote.
In his post, Trump emphasized domestic policy priorities, saying the gathering would focus on tax cuts, border security, lower living costs and public safety.
Trump's approval ratings have declined in recent months amid the impact of the Iran conflict. Democrats and some Republicans have accused him of paying insufficient attention to domestic concerns. Before his second term, Trump had campaigned on pledges to avoid new wars and significantly reduce energy prices.
The midterm elections in November will see voters choose all seats in the House of Representatives, as well as a portion of the Senate and various state-level offices.
If Republicans lose their narrow majority in either chamber, Trump would face major obstacles in advancing legislation and could also be exposed to a renewed push for impeachment proceedings.
